What can we learn from our project?
Through this project, we were able to isolate two bacteriophages previously unknown to science, which we called JimmyPG and KillerQueen. We were able to annotate their genomes and find genes such as DNA helicase, WhiB transcription factor, and Cas4 exonuclease. We figured out that one of our phages has areas of genes that are not similar to any other phages- meaning it may have unique abilities. We were able to participate in research, present it, and contribute to the growing field of phage biology.
