Career Readiness Skills
Communication: Through this research project, we were able to strengthen our skills of communication by the creation and presentation of a poster at the URF. Additionally, we engaged in the national SEA-PHAGES conference, where we interacted with thousands of other student groups and discussed our research in presentation form.
Teamwork: This research was conducted as a class full of student scientists. We strengthened our skills of teamwork by helping each other with our gene annotations and collaborating when discussing their functions.
Technology: This research was done primarily on the computer, with new software such as DNA Master being used. We gained valuable skills of technology in how we annotated our genes by using multiple programs, websites, and applications.
Career and Self Development: By broadening our understanding of this area of microbiology, we have gained insight into future topics of study and developed a familiarity with bioinformatics tools. We have networked with other students at the SEA-PHAGES conference and deepened our skills that will be relevant in our further careers.
