Alexander Hamilton was born january 11, 1755 in Charlestown, Nevis. His parents, Rachel Faucette and James Hamilton, were not married at the time. His father left the family in 1766 and his mother soon passed 2 years later. Hamilton was now an orphan and spent his adolescence on the Danish possession of St. Croix. Locals recognized His remarkable intelligence after he published an eloquent letter describing a hurricane that the island, and raised money to send him to school in the British North American colonies. When Hamilton arrived to mainland America in late 1772 he initially applied to College in New Jersey, but attended King's College in New York city. He wrote several pamphlets in 1774 and 1775. In 1775, Hamilton drilled with a volunteer company of militia, and was made captain of an artillery company in March of 1776. which was the end of his young years and the start of his middle.
Alexander hamilton fought in the revolutionary war alongside George Washington. The battles Kip's bay, White plains, Trenton, and Princeton. Washington gave Alexander hamilton field command during the battle at Yorktown in 1781. Hamilton helped lead to the victory against General Lord Charles Cornwallis. Alexander Hamilton also helped draft the constitution. George washington decided to make Alexander Hamilton the first secretary of treasury, which he excelled at. Hamilton created the first bank and helped shape the economy. When the country was debating whether to be on French or Britain's side during the French revolution Hamilton stayed neutral with Washington. Hamilton helped George washington draft is farewell address and once George washington fully retired Hamilton briefly became the senior- ranking officer of the army. Alexander Hamilton also helped write the Federalist papers.
Hamilton's likeness has adorned our national currency more than any other person, and this, in our view, is an entirely appropriate honor.
In 1801 Hamilton's son was killed in a duel. Later Alexander Hamilton was challenged to a duel by his long time rival Aaron Burr. During the duel many believe the reason Hamilton shot into the air instead of at Burr is because he was still grieving the loss of is son. Aaron Burr killed Hamilton. Hamilton did many important things that impacted us greatly. One of the most important things he did was create the first bank. This still impacts us very much to this day. Without Hamilton we wouldn't have had banks that early on if at all.
Elizabeth was a philanthropist she also founded the orphan Asylum society to help orphans find homes. She helped supervise and educate at least 765 children. ELizabeth also defended Hamilton's legacy even after he had died and helped keep his legacy alive so. Which, helped us know so much about him today. She collected funds with Dolly Madison to help build the Washington Monument.
