The Media program at M.I.S. helps students and staff navigate the world of information and ideas through research skills, reading promotion, and digital citizenship.
Mooresville schools have adopted the Big6™ as our primary research process. It provides a helpful model for approaching information problems. Big6™ website
Two of our best resources for information are Britannica (online encyclopedia for general information) and EBSCO (databases of articles, eBooks, reading recommendations). Students used to access these through NC WiseOwl. Now they go to ClassLink, log into NCEd Cloud, and look for Britannica or EBSCO. (This video shows how to access these resources.)
M.I.S. has a diverse collection of reading materials, in print, audio, and digital formats. Search our catalog using Destiny. Through a partnership with Mooresville Public Library, students can find eBooks and audiobooks on NC Kids Digital Library. To sign in, students choose Mooresville Public Library as their library and use their student ID# as their card number.
We celebrate reading through Family Literacy Nights, Scholastic Book Fairs, "Book Tastings", the NC Children's Book Award program, and more.
M.I.S. uses the Common Sense Media digital citizenship curriculum. We explore ideas such as responsible digital citizenship, privacy, copyright, and cyberbullying. The Common Sense Media web site has a wealth of resources for families as well, including reviews of books, video games, movies, and more.
