Five Need to Knows

Five Need to Knows

About the MGRS Chromebook

Recently your child brought home the MGRS issued Chromebook. Here are answers to five of the most popular questions:

1. How can I learn how to help my child with their Chromebook?

MGRS has set up this Google site to provide you with information concerning how the Chromebook works, how it serves learning and how to take care of it. You can visit this site to learn how to help your child with their device and how to get the most out of the Chromebook. If you have additional questions, please fill out this form and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

2. Can students use Apps on the Chromebook?

Students in grades 8-12 can download apps. To download apps, remind your child that the applications should be instructional in nature and meet the guidelines outlined in the Responsible Use Guidelines.

3. How long will students have the Chromebook?

Our plan is for students to use the Chromebooks year after year. Therefore, students should expect to use their present Chromebook until they graduate from MGRS or unenroll from the school district. Having the same Chromebook over time will help promote respect and responsibility for the technology.

4. What happens if something goes wrong?

Think of the Chromebook like a textbook. If it breaks, MGRS has an insurance policy to cover accidental repairs. While we encourage all students to care for their Chromebooks, if it is damaged the costs for accidental repairs will be covered. We highly recommend the additional voluntary insurance offered thru Worth Ave. The MGRRS insurance does not cover loss or theft while the additional insurance will cover theft and loss. 5. What is our responsibility at home?

When caring for the Chromebook at home, please strive to keep it clean, away from liquids or extreme temperatures and safely packed away during travel. Each night the Chromebook should be charged like a cell phone. The Chromebook holds the charge to last a day or two easily. Therefore it should be ready to handle a normal workload across the school day. MRGS will have charging stations in the new building but until then, students will have limited charging options at school. When using the Chromebook at home we ask that the methods you use to monitor Internet use with personal devices we ask that you do the same with the Chromebooks at home. Finally encourage your child to use the technology to extend their curiosity and their learning.
