Performances

The Asian Heritage Club is proud to announce that our long awaited Lion Dance troupe is finally up and running! We also have our own student run Dragon Dance troupe! Take a look at our history below:

The Beginnings of the Lion Dance

It all started when we were invited to attend a Lion Dance Workshop and performance by the University of Pennsylvania's Penn Lions.

We received a grant from MEF to cover the cost of the workshop.  Because of this, we were able to use the money we had set aside for this to cover the cost of the transportation so the students were able to go to the workshop for free!

The U Penn Campus was beautiful!

The Penn Lions of the University of Pennsylvania gave us the most intensive and thorough lion dance workshop in 2.5 hours!  Some students learned the drums, while some learned the dance.  It was a wonderful experience for the AHC members.  Next, we need to practice what we learned and put on performances for the Metuchen community!

Thank you Penn Lions for this amazing opportunity!

Board of Education Meeting

Our first performance!!!  We took everything that we learned from the Penn Lions, practiced hard, and opened for a Board of Education meeting.

Performance at the Town Plaza!

On February 12, 2022, MHS Asian Heritage Club was invited to perform downtown in the Plaza. As the opening act for the Penn Lions and representatives of students of the town, AHC was proud to be a part of the town's very first Lunar New Year celebration.

Campbell School 2022

We finally fulfilled our wish of performing the Lion Dance at Campbell Elementary School! The students loved the performance as well as the game.

Highland Park Community Center 2023

On January 24, 2023, the Asian Heritage Club visited the seniors at the Highland Park Community Center and performed the Lion and newly formed Dragon Dance for Lunar New Year!

We also had a new trick up our sleeves, or should we say our mouths: A scroll!

Downtown Lunar New Year 2023

On January 28, 2022, the Asian Heritage Club was reinvited to perform at the Plaza, this time with the new addition of the Dragon Dance!

We also updated our black sashes to red!

Lunar New Year 2023 – Downtown Metuchen
