Writing IEP Impact Statements for Combined Hearing and Vision Loss

The impact of combined hearing and vision loss is multiplicative and significant for all children who are deafblind.  By nature, having a combined hearing and vision loss strongly suggests that IEP team members must collaborate and communicate to develop present levels of academic achievement and functional performance (PLAAFP) statements.  These statements can help all team members understand the access needs of deafblind children.  Without developing impact statements, educational teams run the risk of having an incomplete understanding of the child's needs which affects their ability to learn and communicate.
