Google Meet is the video conferencing software that is available through Google. K-8 MPS teachers will be using the Google Meet feature through their Google Classroom to meet with students throughout the school day.
A Guide to Google Meet for Parents and Guardians
Students will be accessing Google Meet through Google Classroom. Each of their Google Classroom classes will have a unique Meet code.
Students will find the code under the title of the class once they open it or by going to the Classwork page.
If the Meet link is not visible, this is because the teacher has hidden it during time periods that class is not actively meeting. Meet links will only be available to students during the time periods they are scheduled to meet with their teachers.
From time to time technical difficulties will happen. If you are having problems, try to be patient and try some of suggestions below:
Leave the meeting and return in five (5) minutes.
Look for announcements on the Google Classroom STREAM. Follow directions for continuing work independently.
Close the tab and try again
Close all tabs and try again
Close all tabs and RESTART the device
If the student is able to join the Meet, you have set up the Meet correctly. If they are joining, getting bounced out, and then are able to rejoin, it may be an internet connectivity issue.
Solutions to this include:
Making certain that the student has a strong wifi connection. This can be seen in the bottom right of the Chromebook screen
Students learning spaces are all over their homes. Moving it closer to the internet router can increase the connectivity.
The strongest connection is always a wired connection. It is possible to connect the Chromebook directly to the router using an ethernet cable and a USB/ethernet adapter. These materials are available on Amazon.
