Individual Planning: The school counselor will meet with every 11th and 12th grade student within the first 9 weeks of school to discuss college readiness and graduation requirements, evaluate the student's transcript and grades, utilize test scores and data when meeting with students, and discuss future plans.
Guidance Curriculum: The school counselor will implement class and group lessons once every month for 9th-12th graders on the following topics: Introduction of School Counselors, Suicide Prevention, Conflict Resolution & Communication, Injury & Violence Prevention and Future Planning.
Responsive Services: Every counselor is trained and proficient in completion of the Suicide Risk Assessment screening tool and district protocol. Counselors will be able to provide an assessment to a student in crisis and provide adequate support, including follow-up and support to parents and guardians.
System Support: Every teacher on campus will complete the "Mental Health Awareness for Educators" course by the end of the year. Courses will cover Depression and Anxiety, Suicide, Self-Harm, Child Abuse, Happiness and Resiliency, Bipolar Disorder and ADHD. At the completion of the course, teachers will take a test, assessing their knowledge in each topic.

Responsive Services
Individualized attention to At-Risk students to foster resilience and encourage growth

Counselors host Honors and Awards breakfast for parent and students grades 9-11, and and a Senior Letter Breakfast and Awards Breakfast
Counselors help host Parent University, covering pertinent topics and encouraging community involvement
Annual training on Child Abuse identification and Suicide Prevention to all staff
Counselors will continue education in regard to counseling such as attending professional development sessions, etc.
Example Activity
Counselors meet with every senior to discuss credits, graduation, and future planning. Students leave the meeting with a copy of their credit check, their transcript, and a list of Helpful Websites (Apply Texas, FAFSA, College search sites, scholarship search sites, etc.). Counselors follow up with students throughout the year, providing assistance and support.
Students' post high school plans are tracked with a senior survey and college applications through Xello.
Parent Collaboration
Counselors present information to parents in several different venues. We host Junior and Senior parent meetings in the fall and spring, we collaborate with JHHS Administration in hosting Parent U meetings, and we help host and present monthly "Coffee Talks" (along with College Readiness).
