These words are very important to our students.
Start using the board by pointing to the words whenever you use them with your student. The visual picture will reinforce your communication. Your student can use the symbols by pointing them too! Have fun building communication skills with your student at home. You can use the board to work on Communication Goals at home.

Breathing and movement exercises to try at home for self regulation
Breathe with me! Let's take 3 big breaths together with the ball.
We do this one every morning as a class together at morning circle.
Let's breathe with the bell together.
We do this one several times a week together in class before beginning a work time to help us focus.
Watch this video together. Then take turns singing out your emotions to “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” (for instance, “I am feeling really sad/glad/mad”). The next time kids are having big feelings, encourage them to try singing them out. Kids don’t even have to use words to express their feelings. How about banging on a drum, or just singing “la la la” in different ways (angry, sad, excited, and so on)?
In this video, the Count teaches Cookie Monster a calming breathing exercise.
Feeling like a monster? Colbie Caillat and Common recommend a calming breath.
