To my returning students, new students and all their parents I welcome all of you to a new school year. I am so excited that we will be meeting in person! I miss all of you and I can't wait to meet the rest of you. I will be putting up here brief overviews of the lessons we will be covering in class. This is my fifth year at Merdinian . Over the summer I participated in a Professional Development class. The classes title was A in STEAM is for art. I am pleased to announce the incorporation of STEAM into my art class. We already began on this road the past year and half and this will be my first official year doing it. I hope over the next few years it will gain strength. My goal is to have every grade level to have at least one to two STEAM projects per semester. I will work with the student's other teachers to have cross collaboration to have some more project based lessons. This will only reinforce what they are learning in their other classes.
As for our other projects the students will get to use a vast amount of mediums: charcoal, soft and oil pastels, color pencils, tempera paint, watercolor paint, ink (print making), clay, pencils, etching, computers and markers. My class will cover many different art history lessons tied into the art we are making. The lessons will range from Pre-historic to Modern art. I also would like to incorporate more drawing from life. Sometimes I will set up a few different still life scenes for them to draw. When weather permits it we will even venture outside to draw nature and buildings to give the kids a much needed mask break.
Supplies will mostly given by the school. This year any high touch items the student will get to keep. I will be passing out brushes and a few other supplies. I will label each and the student will learn how to take care of their own supplies. If you have any questions please email me at latachian@merdionianschool.org
