Allergies

Please note that our school is a Food Allergy Aware School. No environment is able to be completely “Wheat Free”, “Nut Free”, “Egg Free”, or “Food Allergy Free”, but we do our best to educate our students, staff, parents, and community about those who have severe and life threatening allergies.

Symptoms can range from mild to life-threatening:

  • Hives, Itchy rash, Swelling, Itching, Tingling, Swelling of the lips/tongue/mouth, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, coughing, trouble breathing, wheezing, drop in blood pressure, loss of consciousness.

  • Even though most symptoms occur within minutes of eating the allergy causing food, reactions can present up to 2-4 hours later.

  • A person with a food allergy can have a reaction from ingestion, contact, or inhaling the allergen.

What can you do?

  • There is no cure for food allergies. There is no medicine to prevent food allergies.

  • Please be respectful of students in your child’s classroom who may have severe food allergies when sending in snack and lunches.

  • Learn to read food labels so that you can be helpful when choosing foods for your family member, friend, or your child’s classmate.
