Graduation Requirements for MCHS – 24 credits
4 English courses – English I, II, III & IV (one per year)
4 Math courses – Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, math elective (one per year)
3 Science courses – Integrated Science, Biology, Chemistry
3 Social Studies courses – Government/Civics, World History, US History
1 Health/PE course
1 Arts & Humanities course
8 Elective courses
Credits required for promotion and graduation
6 credits = 9th grade – Freshman
12 credits = 10th grade – Sophomore
18 credits = 11th grade –Junior
24 credits = 12th Grade- Graduate
This Kentucky State law (HB 32) applies to ALL students 16 and 17 years old who apply for a permit or license on or after August 1, 2007. It is important to understand that when a sixteen or seventeen year old goes to the circuit court clerk’s office to obtain an instructional permit or license, a School Compliance Verification Form must be presented verifying that the student is in compliance with KRS 159.051.
The public/private school students may obtain the School Compliance Verification Form from their school. If a sixteen or seventeen year old does not present a school compliance verification form he/she will not be eligible to obtain an instructional permit or license.
When a sixteen or seventeen year old student drops out of school or is declared to be academically deficient, the schools will report electronically to the Division of Driver Licensing. The Division of Driver Licensing will suspend the student’s privilege to drive and notify the driver of the suspension. The schools will also report when a student is back in compliance with KRS 159.051 to the Division of Driver Licensing. The Division of Driver Licensing will reinstate the student’s driving privilege.
Grades / Progress Reports
Students’ grades are cumulative throughout the semester at MCHS. Progress reports are sent home with students every 4½ weeks. If you wish to check your child’s progress more often, you can log on to the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.
