Kwame Alexander, one of our favorite authors, has started a company, One Word at a Time.  This nonprofit is working to bring author visits to schools and develop a love of reading and writing in our students.  We are part of this year's series!  Over the school year we will have virtual author visits with Kwame and 3 different authors.  They will teach a  writing lesson and read from their books.  

The first visit Was October 21st with Erin Entrada Kelly.  This award-winning author writes realistic fiction about middle school students and serious issues they deal with.  

The 2nd visit was with Alan Gratz.  He has won awards for his historical fiction writing, specifically about World War 2.  We enjoyed hearing about how he did his research and developed his ideas.

The 3rd visit we had was with Anreas Pinkney and Karyn Parsons.  These authors did a great job of exxplaining the writing process of picture books.  We had this visit at lunch and many 6th graders took advantage of talking with these authors.
