Primary News

Dear Families,

What a busy week we have had! We started last Monday, November 19th, with an assembly on Honesty organized by Ms Gail who told students a nice story on the importance of telling the truth in life. On Wednesday, November 22nd, the Year 2 class went to visit the Güzelbahçe Municipality Animal Shelter. Students had the opportunity to observe how animals are cared for and treated by government vets as this is a temporary shelter for sick and injured animals. Students also brought donations to the shelter; the caretaker was so excited when he saw the dog and cat food, and blankets and toy bones we delivered; all items were bought by the school thanks to the money raised by the Year 2 Tuck Shop!

Walking around the corridor and visiting classrooms this week I saw lot of fantastic examples of student-centred learning but I was particularly impressed to see how Reception 1 students were engaged in their activities. Ms Janice created some very attractive shape boxes for the students to learn to recognize shapes in a more active way than just sitting at a table. Ms Banu used those boxes for shape and colour games in her PE lesson too. The students then explored how to draw shapes with different materials on paper; a great example of hands-on, active learning!

Last but not least came our Sports Day Awards Assembly; Ms Samantha, helped by our STUCO President Cem Bora, gave out awards to the winning teams: Red Team (1st place); Blue Team (2nd place); White Team (Best Team Spirit); Nicolas Yanez Chiguil (Orange Team Best Sportsmanship Award); Milan Matthijssen (Purple Team Best Sportsmanship Award). Congratulations to all participating students!
