Rachel Krauss, Director, Special Needs Initiatives, BCBA, COBA
Rachel Krauss is a licensed teacher in the state of Ohio, a licensed school administrator in the state of Ohio, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and Certified Ohio Behavior Analyst (COBA). Rachel started her career in the classroom as an elementary teacher. She then transitioned to working directly with children with autism and their families in the home setting, first as a behavior technician, and then as a BCBA, developing and overseeing specific programming for children with autism and other developmental delays. She joined the ESC of Medina County as a Behavior Specialist in 2011, working directly with school staff in the classroom, and became director of the Department of Special Needs Initiatives in 2014. She has presented locally and throughout the state at conferences and workshops, is an active member of OHABA and OAPSA, and supervises students as they pursue coursework in Applied Behavior Analysis, as well as supervising BCaBAs (Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts), RBTs (Registered Behavior Technicians), and BTs (Behavior Technicians).
Behavior Technicians (BT), Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT):
A behavior technician (BT) is a paraprofessional who has completed intensive Applied Behavior Analysis training (40 hours) with supervision from a BCBA or BCaBA and completed a competency assessment with a BCBA or BCaBA. Ongoing supervision is required in order to make sure implementation of programs and plans are done with fidelity.
A registered behavior technician (RBT) is someone who has completed the intensive ABA training (40 hours), completed a competency assessment with a BCBA or BCaBA, and has passed an exam administered through the Behavior Analysis Certification Board (BACB).
BTs and RBTs are not a stand-alone option. For both a BT and RBT their role is to provide implementation of programs and plans designed by the BCBA, BCaBA, or Behavior Specialist. The BT/RBT do not assess or develop programs or plans on their own. The BT/RBT works with the BCBA, BCaBA, Behavior Therapist to collect data and provide direct service to students. Only the BCBA or BCaBA Behavior Specialist can make changes to any programs or plans.
The BT/RBT is someone who works directly with students on a consistent basis. They may work daily with a student, with the behavior specialist/BCBA, BCaBA supervising on a weekly basis.
