Social Stories

Why use a social story?

Social Stories are an aid to teach particular social skills, target a particular problem behavior or to identify important social cues in a given situation. Examples include practicing empathy (taking another's point of view); understanding rules, routines, situations, upcoming events or abstract concepts; and understanding expectations.

Social Stories are a great tool to introduce or prime a child with new ideas/ concepts. Social Stories are not a "one size fits all" tool and work best when paired with practice and/or modeling from an adult who is fluent in the given topic.
