Why School Counselors?
School counselors are educators uniquely trained in child and adolescent development, learning strategies, self management and social skills.. They implement a school counseling program to support students through this important developmental period. The school counseling program provides education, prevention and intervention activities, which are integrated into all aspects of students’ lives. The program teaches students the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for academic, career and social/ emotional development.
School Counseling services are available to EVERY student at
Clifford H. Wise Intermediate School.
Some of the services that are available through the Counseling Office include:
RESPONSE SERVICES
Individual, Crisis and Group Counseling
Individual counseling for students regarding family, academic, behavioral, and social issues
Group Counseling which includes:
Family change, study skills, goal setting, peer issues, social skills, anger management, and conflict resolution
Parent, teacher and student consultation
Collaboration with and referrals to outside agencies and resources
Orientation of incoming students
INDIVIDUAL STUDENT PLANNING
Annual review of student progress and plans
Student schedules
COUNSELING CURRICULUM
Conflict resolution to promote positive peer interactions
Classroom Discussions
Character Education
Teaching of communication/social skills (Character Strong Program)
