Daily Homework: Read for 20 minutes a night.
Reading Bag: Your child will come home with a reading bag with books borrowed from school every Monday. Please help your child read the books in this bag daily and return the bag every Friday. Your child will turn in the books to rent new books on the following Monday. Thank you for your help at home!
Book-Mark's Reading Program: If your child has met our goal of reading daily for homework and has handed in a homework checklist every Friday for the month, your child will get a certificate for a free medium pizza from Mark's Pizzeria here in Medina. This is a great opportunity to help your child not only earn a special reward the entire family can enjoy, but also develop a love for reading!
Tricky Words: You will find the three lists of tricky words that our class will be working on this year below. Tricky words are words that have unusual patterns or sounds that sometimes do not follow the rules. We will review the lists throughout the year, but please also make sure to practice the words at home or point them out when you see them in a book. Talk about the different parts of the words and how some parts make the normal sounds and other parts of tricky words make unusual sounds. The more practice and the more discussion about the tricky words, the better!
