Math Homework: Your child's daily math homework is to practice addition and subtraction math facts and complete the assignment on the homework checklist that will come home on Monday every week. I only need you to return the weekly homework checklist on Fridays. Thank you!
Math Flash Cards: There are math flash cards attached to the links above for you to print and use for free or you can create your own using index cards and markers. Please keep a pack of flash cards available for your child to practice before bed, when they get home and are enjoying a snack, or even in the car. There are also affordable flash cards available at the local dollar stores. The more practice, the better!
Counting: In First Grade, we are working toward counting orally and writing numbers up to 120! Please help your child by helping them practice counting throughout your day.

Fast Flash: Flash addition or subtraction cards to your child and see how many facts your child can complete in a minute!
The Number Game: Think of a number in your head and keep it a secret. Give your child clues on what the number is and see if your child guesses it correctly. For instance, the number is two digits, both the tens and ones digits are even, and the number is greater than 20 but less than 40. The number is 26!
Rock, Paper, Scissors, MATH! Play the regular way, but instead of making your hands into the rock, paper, or scissors symbols, have the child and the other player put out a number of fingers 0-5. The first player to count up both sets of fingers and state the total wins that round. For instance, if one player puts out 1 finger and the other player sticks our 3 fingers, the total would be 4. The first person to yell 4 is the winner of that round.
Elevator Counting: Tell the kids you are riding an elevator and you are either go up or going down and they have to help you count. Tell the child you are starting on floor 15 and need to get to floor 2. Have the child count down as they "ride down the elevator" to floor 2 by starting at 15. 15.... 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2- We've arrived! Also play this by riding up. For instance, if you are starting on floor 5 and you need to get to floor 19, say 5....6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19! We've arrived! This game helps students practice counting down and counting on orally. This is a fun game to play while riding in the car together!
