New Year's Update:
Reminder, self-scheduling for Avogadro is set to open on Jan. 3 at 7 am. If you haven't checked your team name in Avogadro yet, it would be great idea to log in and make sure everything looks right (and that you can actually log in) before self-scheduling starts. If you have any issues or questions, let me know.
Team numbers: I've adjusted a few of the Div. B team numbers, and we've added one more HS team and updated a few team names. If you have other preferred names for your teams, I'm happy to continue updating those.
Trial Events: We've been asked to run a couple of trial events. Please encourage your team members to try these out. I have them set up as sign-up events so that you can plan when your team is available, and I encourage you to sign up for times if you can. We WILL also take walk-ins.
Protein Modeling is the first of these two trial events. Competing in this will give your team a sneak-peak at this event before it returns to the national event rotation next year. Given the short time frame, there will not be a pre-built protein for this tournament. Students will build a protein onsite and take a written test. See the attached rules for details.
Gene Regulation is the second trial event. This event was designed and written by a very passionate high school sophomore in the hopes of it becoming a national event at some point. This student reached out to see if we would help gather feedback on the event as part of the trial process. Please support this student's impressive effort by encouraging your students to try it out and provide feedback. Thanks! Rules are attached.
We've moved a few event locations (Fossils, Experimental Design, Disease Detectives, and Helicopters), which are highlighted on the updated team schedules. Most notable is the switch for Helicopters into a room with a slightly lower ceiling but much more flying space, as pictured.
December 19th
Coaches - I will be setting up Avogadro over break. Self-scheduling will open on Friday, Jan. 3 at 7:00 a.m. and close on Monday, Jan. 13 at 10:00 p.m.
Please note that we currently have three blocks of Div. C teams (no teams in the number 31-40 block so far.) I've kept it that way to give an open time block for ES if possible. If several teams contact me to join in the next few days, I reserve the right to rearrange team numbers up until December 30. I don't expect to go into the 31-40 time block, but it's possible. If it happens, I'll let everyone know right away.
If team names are not correct, please confirm for me what names you prefer.
Helicopter: The tallest flat ceiling we have is a hallway with a ceiling height of 3.6 meters. The space hallway is just under 3 meters wide. The doors should not be in use during the competition, and the end of the hallway is otherwise unused. Not ideal, but best we've come up with. **Picture Below**
Trial events: I've been contacted in the past few days about offering two trial events, and I'm trying to make that work. We're looking to offer Protein Modeling and Gene Expression as trial events, and would encourage your students to give them a go. Protein Modeling will be returning as a national event next year, so this is a great chance to get a bit of experience in it! I'll send out rules for those as soon as I get confirmation that we'll be running them.
