what it is

According to the American Psychiatric Association, anxiety is one of the most prevelant childhood mental disorders.

Anxiety is something almost all humans feel at some point in their lives and is a natural reaction to stressors, however, some students will be dealing with chronic anxiety or anxiety disorders (which can be diagnosed or not) that may interfere with their learning.  It can cause distress, higher rates of depression, trouble concentrating, low self esteem, and less positive peer relationships.

Anxiety disorders often defined as: "An irrational fear or stimulus that is in excess of what would be considered reasonable and age appropriate"

But more specifically, it is anxiety that interferes with one's daily life

In order to identify if anxiety is an issue, ask the question: Is it helpful?

This question is a way to determine if anxiety is negatively impacting someone's life. It helps point out when there is a problem, and if help is needed.
