Take a look at some of the fabulous artwork created by our 4-6 GT art students this year!
Gifted Education Month in Kentucky has been formally proclaimed by Governor Beshear. February is the month when we honor gifted students and the educators and parents who care for them. Like so many events, the Proclamation ceremony looks different this year. Instead of being in the Capitol Rotunda, this year’s ceremony is a virtual ceremony with videos provided by Governor Beshear, Commissioner Glass, legislative leadership, Gatton and Craft Academy Students, KAGE Distinguished Students, and photographs of G/T students from districts around the commonwealth.
While it's been a slow start, we are finally able to work with students in-person and it's great having the students back in their buildings! Here's what we've been doing:
Elementary students across the district are designing bridges using the Engineer Design Process. Additionally, students learned about various engineers and types of bridges. As one student stated, "Building is complicated. But making mistakes is good." That's when the real learning begins!
Art students are learning about the artists Van Gogh, Munch, and Kandinsky and their contribution to abstract art. Students are creating their own abstract piece of art with Mrs. Whelan.
Vocal students had the opportunity to work with Mr. Crafton, the middle and high school choral director, on a selection of music for a few weeks. Students are also learning about various musical symbols and terminology found in written music.
During NTI learning, students have the opportunity to work from home on various enrichment opportunities found on our GT Virtual classroom. You can see some of their terrific work pictured below.
