We have a character development program at Monte Gardens called "Social Superheroes." Social Superheroes consists of 2 parts: POWERS and Life Skills. Students learn "powers", or skills, that will help them navigate the complexities of life. The Social Superhero Powers are listed below:
Closed Mouth Power: The power to keep your mouth closed. This helps you pay attention and stay focused in class, and also helps you when you are tempted to say something you might regret.
Trash Can Power: The power to get rid of mean words, brush it off, and move on.
Walk Away Power: The power to remove yourself, either by walking away or looking away, when presented with an uncomfortable or frustrating situation.
Power to Speak Up: The power to stand up for yourself and/or others and let someone know if they are doing something that makes you uncomfortable. You can say “Please stop!” in a firm and respectful manner.
Power of Getting Help: The power to talk to someone else to get the help you need, if your other powers haven’t worked or the problem is a big one.
Each month, our Social Superheroes program focuses on teaching our students about a different IB Learner Profile Attribute. At the end of each trimester, we hold an awards assembly to celebrate 2 students from each class who did an excellent job of demonstrating the Learner Profile Attributes we learned about that trimester. The attributes we will focus on each month, during the 2025-2026 school year, are listed below:
