The University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) are no longer using SAT/ACT as part of their admission decisions.
As a trend, most colleges are continuing test optional or test blind policies. See the admissions webpage for any college you are exploring for more information. Colleges may update their policies for the upcoming admissions cycle in March, so please join email lists and social media accounts for colleges you are interested in.
The University of Georgia and University of Florida systems continue to require the SAT/ACT for admissions.
*If test OPTIONAL* – our colleges are doing an excellent job showing that when they say test optional…. They MEAN test optional. If you feel like you are able to take the exam and that it will add value to your application, please submit to colleges who may use it. If you don’t feel an exam is the best way to highlight your college readiness and skills, please feel comfortable not submitting scores to test-optional colleges and universities. Go to college specific information sessions or talk with Mrs Santos if you have further questions.

The SAT/ACT is ONE of many things that college admission officers use to evaluate a student’s application. The student’s overall GPA, coursework that they have taken, and sometimes Personal Statements are all used during the evaluation process. Some colleges don’t require the SAT/ACT if students have a certain GPA. College Admission web pages will have that specific information, or you can contact the Regional Admissions Reps for colleges you are looking at. If you plan to major in STEM, you may want to consider the ACT instead of the SAT. The ACT has a science section and AlgII/Trig section.
NCAA UPDATE- Students who initially enroll full time during 2021-22 or 2022-23 will receive an automatic initial-eligibility waiver in the academic certification process that provides the highest level of relief for which they are eligible, per the criteria in this link. Please note, some colleges may still ask for exams. (2023-24 will update as it becomes available)
