Harlem Renaissance

Renaissance = rebirth

The Harlem Renaissance took place in the 1920s and 1930s. It celebrated African American and Black lives, histories, backgrounds, and abilities while always pushing for social change and equality for all.

Students will:

  • build a basic, foundational knowledge about the Harlem Renaissance (Day 1)

  • choose one individual from the Harlem Renaissance to study and research further (Day 2)

  • synthesis and present their findings in one of the follow ways (Day 3):

    • poster, draw the individual with a paragraph about them or create a timeline of important events/actions

    • create a google slide or movie

    • type a biography

    • create comic book focusing on their role in the Harlem Renaissance

    • create a diorama of an important event in their life
