Newsela provides access to a huge data-base of current events stories tailor-made for classroom use. Indexed by broad theme (e.g. War and Peace, Arts, Science, Health, Law, Money), stories are both student-friendly and can be accessed in different formats by reading level. Use Newsela to differentiate nonfiction reading. Newspaper writers rewrite a story four times for a total of five Lexile levels per story. All articles have embedded, Common Core aligned quizzes that conform to the reading levels for checking comprehension.

Newsela is an outstanding resource for distance learning content. It can help drive meaningful student engagement and make formative and summative assessment accessible in for remote learning.

Poll Everywhere is a simple web-based application that can be used in and outside the classroom to create multiple-choice or open-ended polls. You can also use Poll Everywhere in distance learning classrooms or fully online courses.

How does it work?

You ask a question with the Poll Everwhere app. Students respond via a text message or a web page. Everyone sees responses live on the web or in a PowerPoint presentation.

Otter is one of the most popular speech-to-text apps in the world. It’s not perfect, but its fast, accurate transcriptions, speaker identification, and streamlined management tools are. It enables users to record and automatically transcribe conversations using either their phone or their computer. On top of this, it has the ability to recognize and differentiate between different speakers.

Otter also enables users to edit and manage transcriptions directly in-app. Audio records can be played back at different speeds, and images and other content can be inserted directly into transcriptions. You can even import audio and video files to be transcribed.
