The Meriwether County School Board appointed Christopher Owens to represent district two in 2022. He is currently the Vice Chairman. He was elected to the GSBA Board of Directors representing District 6 in August 2025. He passionately believes in and supports public education. His goal is to give every child the chance to reach their full learning potential.
He is a graduate of Greenville High located in Meriwether County, LaGrange College, and University of West Georgia. Chris has been employed by Yokogawa Corporation of America as General Manager of Supply Chain for the past 36 years. During his tenure, he has had the pleasure to mentor and coach young Black males in the workplace.
He is an active member of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where he serves his church in various roles. He is a proud brother of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and an active member of the LaGrange Alumni Chapter. He enjoys sports in general – especially softball, baseball, basketball and track. Over the years, he has coached softball, baseball and kickball with a focus in teaching fundamentals. Above all, he is simply a helpful servant. His favorite scripture is Jeremiah 29:11.

The Meriwether County Board of Education is the governing body of Meriwether County Schools. Key duties of the Board include but are not limited to the following:
Appointing the Superintendent
Adopting school system policies
Approving and overseeing the budget
Adopting courses of study
Providing school facilities
Employing school system personnel
Monitoring plans for continuous improvement of the school system.
The Superintendent is a professional educator appointed by the Board and serves as chief executive officer responsible for leading and managing school system operations.
