MCPS no longer offers a "half day schedule". This has been in effect since 2023-2024 school year. If you are interested in an abbreviated schedule, you will need to apply for the Internship or Apprenticeship Program. You will need to apply through completing the Student Interest Form (open May 1st, 2026).
Steps look a little different depending on Internships and Apprenticeships. Please be sure to review the Internship and Apprenticeship pages for specific information.
The best way to begin is through a search of high school available Internships and Apprenticeship opportunities starting January through March. A google search or checking out the Navigator System could be a great place to start. You can also view this list of opportunities here. But you need to do some homework and prepare your Resume. You can look at Maryland, DC and Northern Virginia Locations.

The Internship and Apprenticeship is an opportunity for you to learn while still in High School what the world of work can look like for you. You may use a job you currently have or search out new opportunities to learn while working. Building your network and gaining valuable experiences along the way. Attendance at the workshops is REQUIRED and part of your grade. If you miss a workshop that week, please contact Ms. Gustin. More information about meetings, workshops and procedures for your internship or apprenticeships will be held during orientation (first week of the semester).
Internship and Apprenticeship grades are weighted grades, so your participation not only in your Internship and Apprenticeship duties, but also the workshops is required. You will need to attend all workshops, And some may contain guest speakers. See the calendar that was shared and is available on our Canvas Page. Be sure to communicate with your mentor that you will need to attend this workshop and that you may be late that day. Workshops may be held during 5th period, Lunch, 6th period or 7th period.
