Wheaton High School WBL along with the College and Career Center will be hosting several events throughout the 2026-2027 school year. We are currently looking for Businesses and Business Professionals to participate. If interested, please complete this Interest Form. We thank you for your interest in sharing your insight with Wheaton Students.
Wheaton High School will also offer a Career and Internship Fair in March of 2027. All grade levels are encouraged to participate. In March of 2026 we had over 45 companies and post-secondary organizations participate. Its a great opportunity to learn more and see what might be available for the summer of 2027 and beyond.

About the Program
Wheaton Work Based Learning is either a Internship or Apprenticeship that is a directed, practical learning experience, outside of the normal classroom setting, in which students sharpen skills, gain experience through structured and monitored work-based learning experiences. Students apply academic concepts, mastery instructional objectives in a variety of professional settings, and develop a direct primary approach to identify organizational operation of local professional companies.
For example: Internships can be done over the summer or during the academic school year (over both semesters or just one semester). Learn more about Internships through our Internship Page.
Students enrolled in Internship need to attend a workshop seminars
Seminar topics will be related to the student’s lived experience at their work sites
Grades are given for work associated with seminars and sponsor evaluations
Students only earn academic credit if both marking periods are passed with work submitted and total hours earned equal satisfactory status

The Apprenticeship program is an excellent opportunity to get ahead and start your career aspirations while still in high school. There are two popular choices with
Dental Assistant Educational Program and
IEC Electrical Apprenticeship Program
Other Apprenticeship Programs are opening each year, so be on the lookout for more opportunities.

All Student Internships and Apprenticeships have REQUIRED MCPS Paperwork that must be submitted before you can start your internship. If you are interested in helping a teacher for a class period, or using your current job as an internship, the paperwork below MUST be completed after you fill out the Student Interest Form. See Below for Links to the Required Forms.

All paperwork below was due by September 4th, 2026. Only those who submitted an application form, will be accepted for paperwork submission.
MCPS Form 280-98 Request for a part time schedule (return to your counselor)
MCPS Form 560-31 Transportation NOT provided by MCPS (return to Ms. Gustin)
MCPS Form 280-77 Internship Program Agreement. Be sure to get all signatures and return to Ms. Gustin
MCPS Form 280-77a Internship Sponsor Questionnaire. Be sure to have your sponsor complete and sign. Return to Ms. Gustin

Meet Your Internship/Apprenticeship Coordinator
Hello! My name is Ms. Kim Gustin and I am the Internship/Apprenticeship Coordinator for Wheaton High School. You can find me in room 1201 which is located in the Art Hallway. You can also reach me by email.
This is my 25th year in Education and I spent 23 years in the classroom teaching a wide variety of CTE subjects. From Keyboarding, Introduction to Business and Entrepreneurship, Marketing, AP Computer Science Principles and Web Development. I have outside experience of having my own business, working with a national organization and of course working with businesses and students. I am excited to embark on this journey and hope that you have an amazing experience in gaining not only real world opportunities, but learning networking skills to make lasting connections.
