Conductor, visionary, speaker and entrepreneur Christopher G. Guerra has inspired audiences with his presentations and concerts for over three decades. He is currently the director of choral music at Westland Middle School, and the Founder Emeritus of the Strathmore Children’s Chorus.

In partnership with Strathmore, Mr. Guerra founded the Strathmore Children’s Chorus (SCC) in 2012. SCC quickly became one of the fastest growing children’s choruses in the United States, with over 200 members by its second year. After developing five ensembles and a staff of 11 members, Mr. Guerra resigned his post to concentrate on teaching and several other projects. His choirs have opened shows for such luminaries as Julie Andrews, Tony Bennett, Count Basie, and his choirs have also performed with Isaac Hayes, the National Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Philharmonic Chorale. He has commissioned works from some of the most successful international choral composers, including Jim Papoulis, Rollo Dilworth, Mandy Miller and David Brunner.

In 2005, Mr. Guerra was a founding member of the A. Mario Loiederman Middle School for the Creative and Performing Arts in Silver Spring, Maryland, where he built a choral program that achieved national recognition, and where his choral ensembles won numerous competitions during his 9 years tenure at the county, state and interstate level, receiving several Best Chorus awards. He is honored to once again work under the leadership of former Loiederman Middle School principal, Mrs. Alison Serino.

Mr. Guerra is the recipient of the 2012 Maryland Music Educators Association’s (MMEA) Outstanding Teacher Award. His choirs have performed at two national conferences, including the American Choral Directors Association’s National Middle School Choral Conference in Dallas, Texas, as well as at MMEA conferences and several performances at the world-class Music Center at Strathmore. In 2012 his Chamber Choir received a perfect rating in all categories at the MMEA State Choral Festival competing at Level IV.

Mr. Guerra has conducted orchestras, jazz bands, mass choirs and barbershop quartets and he has adjudicated and directed honors choruses for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) and for various choral organizations throughout Maryland and beyond. His choral program consistently places high numbers of students in local and state honors choruses.

Mr. Guerra was Music Director for the Chicago and D.C. Church of Christ and was the featured vocalist with the 566th Air Force Band. He has conducted numerous choral and production workshops in the U.S. and abroad. He attended the Chicago Music College and earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Ball State University, with graduate studies at the University of Maryland, Towson University and George Mason University. He has studied with Doreen Rao and Michael Jothen and is an active member of MMEA, NAfME and ACDA.

Mr. Guerra resides in N. Potomac, Maryland with his wife of 28 years, Dr. Veronica Guerra. After receiving multiple scholarships, their daughter Sonya completed her music studies at James Madison University and is now in her fifth year of teaching choral music in Cobb County, Georgia and is currently completing her master’s degree at Florida State University. Their son, Christopher, completed his master’s degree from James Madison and is teaching history and AP psychology at Colonial Forge High School in Virginia and is assistant coach for the junior varsity baseball team.
