There are two (2) parts to the Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement program:
1) a three (3) course curriculum sequence in college-level academic content relating to criminal justice, and
2) a "capstone" option to complete the program.
COURSE SEQUENCE
During the FIRST year in the program, Regional Part-Time students take the following two courses:
During the SECOND year in the program, students take the third course:
Click the above courses to learn more about the course content.
In order to complete the program, part-time students have one of three options:
Enroll in a Guided Research Capstone course in Forensics Science at Seneca Valley High School or your homeschool.
Work in an Internship with an employer in a law enforcement or legal field
Enroll in a Dual Enrollment course at Montgomery College in Criminal Justice
Click the above link to learn more about these Capstone options.
Part-Time students spend part of every school day taking criminal justice courses at Seneca Valley High School, while they spend the majority remainder of their school day at their home high school. They are also provided MCPS bus transportation to and from their home school each day. (Note: Students who have a license and choose to drive may also request a student parking pass.)
For example, a Clarksburg student would take an early bus from Clarksburg High School that arrives at Seneca Valley High School by 7:45am for 1st period. That student would be enrolled in the first 2 courses in the program during 1st and 2nd periods. They would then take an MCPS bus from Seneca Valley back to Clarksburg (or wherever their home school from the above list is) and attend courses at their home school the rest of the day. Because of the travel time between Seneca Valley High School and other Upcounty schools, students are given a "travel period" during 3rd period on their schedule.
