To complete the Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement program, students can choose one of three options:
Option 1: Internship
Students independently pursue work-based learning (WBL). Internships can include work at law enforcement agencies, State Attorney (prosecutor) office, Public Defender, or private law firms. Internships cannot be guaranteed, as they are on the availability and discretion of individual employers. An internship can be pursued during the summer (either before the junior year if a student takes Criminal Justice courses during sophomore year or before the senior year for students who started during 10th or 11th grades).
Option 2: Dual Enrollment at Montgomery College
Students enroll in a Criminal Justice course at Montgomery College (MC). Student will receive both MCPS HS credit and MC credit when the course is successfully completed. MC Criminal Justice course can be taken whenever course is offered by MC, whether during school year or during summer session.
Option 3: Capstone Guided Research at Seneca Valley High School
Students enroll in a guided research capstone course in Forensics at Seneca Valley High School or their home school to pursue further research in the field of criminal justice.
