IB DP Requirement Overview:
11th & 12th grades- optional (but highly encouraged!)
6 IB courses over 2-years- 1 course per subject area with 3 Higher-level (HL) courses & 3 Standard-level (SL) courses
Group 1: Language & Literature
Group 2: Language Acquisition
Group 3: Individuals & Society
Group 4: Science
Group 5: Math
Group 6: The Arts (or another IB course)
Can be combined with CTE pathway
~30% of our current IB DP Seniors are also in a CTE pathway
Potential for college credit &/or placement
Core requirements:
Theory of Knowledge course
Extended Essay Research Paper
Creativity, Action, & Service
IB Diploma Courses:
Students must take 1 course per subject area (called Groups) with 3 Higher-level (HL) courses & 3 Standard-level (SL) courses.
3 Higher- Level (HL) courses:
approximately 240 hours of required IB-instruction
always a two-year course that must be started Junior year

Example IB DP Schedules:
The IB Diploma Programme has fixed core requirements but allows flexibility for students to personalize their course selections and pursue individual interests. The sample schedules below illustrate how students can explore different pathways while completing the IB Diploma. Please note that while we strive to honor student course preferences, scheduling conflicts may occasionally limit availability.
✓ IB DP requires students to take 1 course from each Group/Subject Area for 6 total content courses.
Group 1: Language & Literature Group 2: Language Acquisition Group 3: Individuals & Society (Social Studies)
Group 4: The Sciences Group 5: Math Group 6: Arts (or an another IB course from Groups 2-4)
✓ IB DP requires 3 of the courses to be HL and 3 of the courses to be SL.
Standard Level (SL) courses: may be a 1 or 2-year course Higher Level (HL) courses: always a 2-year course started in 11th grade, bolded below
