a. Membership increased to 133 members. Alison Nelson is our Membership Coordinator.
b. Increased student PTSA participation from AOIT (Create with Kindness grant), Culinary Arts Dept, SGA, NHS and BSU.
c. Onsite translator at PTSA meetings (Bryan Yeet) and increased translation of materials into Spanish to increase participation from the Hispanic Community.
Advocate for Springbrook in Montgomery County (To obtain Capital Improvement, Equipment needs and other resources to improve SB)
a. Blain Tekeste and Heinz Weverink are Delegates and have been advocating for Springbrook's complete list of needs with ongoing communication with MCPS and the Board of Education for both maintenance and Capital Improvement items.
b. Facilitated new crosswalk at Valley Brook Drive and Greenhill Drive with a 3-way stop.
c. Heinz worked with the Science Dept. to improve the Greenhouse and the Ceramics room.
d. Leslie West-Bushby pursued Create with Kindness Grant from National PTA/Tik-Tok. PTSA received $1,000.00 and worked with students from the AOIT department.
e. Leslie and Blain pursued the School of Excellence designation for Springbrook and obtained it.
f. Sponsored the Beautification project completed by NHS and the Garden Club.
Host teacher/staff appreciation events
a. Hosted Back-to-School luncheon for teachers/staff on Aug. 24th
b. Snacks provided for teachers’ meetings.
c. Gabi Philippon donated gift cards donated for teachers for PSAT day.
d. Hosted Holiday luncheon for teachers/staff on December 21st
e. Gift cards were distributed to the Counselors.
f. Tameika Thomasson led the initiative to host Teacher Appreciation week (Open Vending Machine (snacks all week), Breakfast and Luncheon).
Supply items for "FREE" store for students
a. PTSA donated $209.00 in supplies and Rahel Willis obtained another $300.00 donation for the FREE Store.
b. PTSA solicited donations for Winter Care packages.
Support Three Major School Events
1) Homecoming
a. Alison Nelson served food to 800+ kids at Homecoming and the PTSA provided 1,000 Chick-Fil-A chicken nuggets.
2) Winter Formal
a. Multiple PTSA members donated food, drinks and volunteered their time to serve and chaperone.
3) After Prom party
a. Approximately 120 students celebrated at Terpzone in a drug-free and safe environment. Carl, Alison, Blain, Gabi and Leslie served at this event.
Fundraising
a. Tsedenia Bezabah, Gabi Philippon and Leslie organized several fundraisers throughout the year (2 Chipotle, Panera Bread, Ledo’s, Poinsettias, Cheesecakes and Seasonal Roots). Our total income including the money received from memberships was $8,476.68.
