Springbrook AOIT requires that students take courses toward their certificate each year of their high school career. We also encourage students to focus their electives on computer science topics so they gain a broad basis of skills. Students are also encouraged to attempt extracurricular computer science activities including coding events and competitions outside of Springbrook.
To complete the AOIT certificate students must complete an internship. We have a full-time internship coordinator available to support students through seminars, career skill development workshops, and individual support sessions.
Notes on scheduling:
Mathematics, Science and Social Studies classes are selected based on teacher recommendations and individual student requirements.
Students can complete multiple AOIT pathways by using electives to complete two courses of a second pathway.
Students have the option of taking Health online over the summer or through Blended Learning. This is an effective way to allow for additional computer science electives.
AOIT pathway courses occur in sequence so it is often wise to wait to take the Fine Art. Health and PE graduation credits until the junior or senior year to allow for courses that must be taken in sequence.
If you have any questions about your student’s four year plan please contact Yvette_J_Edwards@mcpsmd.org to have their four year plan reviewed.
