AOIT FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it possible to enter AOIT after Freshman or Sophomore year?

Yes! We are eager to include every student who wants to participate in AOIT. Please schedule a meeting with the AOIT Coordinator, Gwen Filipiak, and the student’s guidance counselor to discuss the possibilities for program completion.

Can classes be skipped in the program?

Classes in AOIT pathways can only be skipped in very specific circumstances. In order to skip a class the student must verify with quantitative evidence that they have the skills contained in the class. They can have taken an equivalent class in another program or taken the exam related to the content (CISCO A+ exam, AP CSP or AP CSA exam). Our experience has been that students who skip classes struggle with later content.

Is an internship required?

Yes! All students in the AOIT program must complete an internship of 120 hours. Internal internships within the school are extremely limited and generally reserved for students who are in the CISCO or Digital Media pathway or have special restrictions on their ability to pursue an internship outside of the building.

What are the opportunities for enrichment?

Students have a wide variety of opportunities to enrich their experience in the AOIT program. We offer many different clubs, opportunities to enter competitions, opportunities to attend and support summer programs and field trips.

What is the value of the National Academy Foundation AOIT Certificate?

By completing the requirements for the AOIT program students become NAFTrack Certified with the National Academy Foundation. This certification gives students exclusive access to scholarships, internships, conferences and employment opportunities beyond high school into college or career.
