Good afternoon,
We had a great start to our school year last week. It was a pleasure meeting many of our parents at the 9th grade Transition Day and also at Back to School night this past Thursday. If you were unable to attend Back to School Night, many of our teachers provided video and/or slideshows within the student's course that you can access via ParentVue, then MCPS Classroom. For our parents of seniors, to access the presentation Counseling provided, please see here. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to myself or your child's grade level administrator or counselor. Our contact information can be found on the home page.
Senior photo sessions are available. Please see here to schedule a session.
This week, September 2nd - 5th, we will begin our Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) testing. Students will take the MAP Reading assessment via their English class. The MAP Mathematics assessment date is to be determined. MAP is a norm-referenced measure of student growth over time. MAP, joined with other data points, provides detailed, actionable data about where each child is on their unique learning path. The data will inform academic growth, course placement, and summer programs. The Family Toolkit provides more information about MAP testing: https://www.nwea.org/the-map-suite/family-toolkit/.
Good luck to all of our fall sports teams and athletes. Sports schedules can be found on our athletic site here. Thank you for supporting our student athletes and our Warrior Club.
Parents, we hope that you will take a moment to join the PTSA. The Sherwood PTSA provides support to our Sherwood students and staff, but they cannot do it without your support. Please see here. for important information about this important school resource.

Good afternoon,
Welcome Back to School and welcome new Sherwood students. Today, Monday, August 25th Sherwood is hosting "Transition Day" (orientation) for all of our incoming 9th grade class and any new to Sherwood HS student. All incoming 9th grade students and new students to Sherwood HS, are expected to attend school. We have a lot of exciting activities and resources we will be providing for your student: learning how to navigate the building, learn their schedule, and generally acclimate to the high school day. We would also like to invite all incoming 9th grade parents to join the administration and counseling from 7:45-8:30 am, in our cafeteria, for a light breakfast and discussion. In this meeting, parents will learn about the schools goals, mission, and vision. We will also share information on grading and reporting, and other major school resources.
All returning students in grades 10-12 will begin school on Tuesday, August 26.
Students and parents, as we prepare for the start of the 2025–2026 school year, there are several key updates that will be implemented across the school system and we want to ensure you have detailed information for how they will impact your child’s educational experience. We believe that every student can meet high expectations for their learning and behavior when they are well supported and these expectations are communicated clearly to all members of our school community. The purpose for increasing expectations for all members of our school community is to provide your child with a more rigorous teaching and learning experience and improve the safety and structure of schools to foster a culture of high engagement. We recognize that changes in expectations will require increased communication with you and your child and we will be using the first weeks of school to ensure there are multiple opportunities to share and discuss them. This letter will be the first of many efforts to effectively communicate key changes to school system structures, including here at Sherwood High School that will be effective on the first day of school, August 26, 2025. Please see here for detailed information on the following; Grading and Reporting, Student Code of Conduct, Cell Phone use, Emergency Preparedness, and Accessing Alternative Texts.
In addition, parents please note that students have a responsibility to be dressed and groomed for school in a manner that is not disruptive to the learning environment or school activities. We will enforce the dress code strictly this school year. See the linked dress code.

And finally, we hope all of our families will join us this coming Thursday, August 28th from 7:00-9:00 for our Back to School Night held at the school in-person. Parents who have questions about ParentVue, help will be available in the Library Media Center from 6:30-7:00pm.
