Warm Greetings! My name is Ms. Davis and I am happy to welcome our kindergarten friends to Rosemary Hills! This is going to be my third year at Rosemary Hills and my third year as a school counselor. I was a kindergarten teacher for 6 years in the county prior to becoming a school counselor. I am an advocate in the encouragement of kindness, mindfulness, and diversity.
The one thing that makes kindergarten so special is the enthusiasm and excitement for learning...it is priceless.
Welcome to kindergarten!
I will be providing lessons that focus on mindfulness and social and emotional learning. My focus parallels the five-point social and emotional framework our county supports. These areas of competency are:
Self-Awareness-Assessing our feelings, interests, strengths; maintaining self-confidence.
Self-Management-Regulating emotions to handle stress, control impulses and in overcoming obstacles.
Social Awareness-Understanding different perspectives, recognizing/ appreciating similarities and differences and practicing empathy.
Relationship Skills-Maintaining healthy relationships based on cooperation; resisting inappropriate social pressure; preventing, managing and resolving interpersonal conflicts; seeking help when needed.
Responsible Decision Making-Using a variety of considerations, including ethical, academic, and community related standards to make choices and decisions.
We practice kindness daily at Rosemary Hills. We strive to always show friendliness, generosity and compassion in our daily interactions with our students and peers. Each year we celebrate kindness week by participating in random acts of kindness within our school, families and community.
Mindfulness can be thought of as a “state”, a “trait”, or a “practice.” You can have a moment of mindfulness, which is the state of your mind. You can also have a sustained experience that is more like a habit or strong tendency to be mindful, a trait. Or you can engage in a more intentional practice of mindfulness by using different forms, postures and activities, such as seated mindfulness meditation, mindful walking, and mindful eating.
Here at Rosemary Hills we encourage, support, and practice diversity and inclusion. Our school mission states that "All children under the rainbow can learn." We dedicate ourselves to not just practicing diversity, but allow each lesson, interaction and conversation define our diversity. Part of our Rosemary Hills family are our CAPP and Autism students. We engage in lessons, activities and celebrations that foster our relationships here at Rosemary Hills.
