- Kindergarten, first grade, and second grade students have a new curriculum starting this year. This quarter, first grade students will be going through the performing and responding processes for some select songs. These processes will facilitate learning the following concepts:
- Melodic contour
- Reading long/short-short rhythms using iconic notation
- Steady beat
- Loud/soft dynamics
- Fast/slow tempo
- Classroom instruments and classroom instrument families
- In quarter 2, first grade students will be going through the creating and performing processes for some select songs. These processes will facilitate learning the following concepts:
- High/low pitch reading
- Rhythm reading: quarter note, beamed eighth notes
- Steady beat on instruments
- Classroom instruments and classroom instrument families
- In quarter 3, first grade students will be going through the performing and responding processes for some select songs. These processes will facilitate learning the following concepts:
- Pitch reading: So and Mi
- Rhythm reading: quarter rest
- AB and ABA form
- Matching pitch within a limited range
- In quarter 4, first grade students will be going through the performing and creating processes for some select songs. These processes will facilitate learning the following concepts:
- Pitch reading: La
- Pitch notating: So, Mi, and La
- Rhythm notating: quarter note, beamed eighth notes, quarter rest
- Tritonic tonality
- Matching pitch within a limited range
- Musical symbols: note heads, stems, and beams
