Building Your School Schedule
To be maintain full-time status in MCPS, students are required to enroll in a minimum of 4 classes. These 4 classes can be a mix of college courses through Dual Enrollment and high school courses taken at Northwood. For example, a student could take two courses at Montgomery College and two at Northwood, or even one course at Montgomery College and three at Northwood.
While the minimum number of classes is 4, there are no specific requirements for what those classes must be, as long as the student is meeting the necessary graduation credits. This flexibility allows students to tailor their schedules based on their interests and academic goals, while still staying on track for graduation.

MCPS covers the cost of up to two Dual Enrollment courses, including tuition, fees, and materials. This means students can take one or two classes without any out-of-pocket expenses. If a student wants to take additional courses, they will be responsible for the costs. The classes taken must be in the approved list of classes for students.
Students enrolled in JumpStart to College can earn credits that count towards both their MCPS and Montgomery College academic requirements. To ensure that a MC course fulfills a specific MCPS credit requirement, students should confirm the class' equivalency (e.g., ENGL 110 may count as a MCPS General Elective, while ENGL 101 might satisfy a MCPS English requirement).
Grades from these college courses will be included on the student's permanent MCPS transcript and will be weighted in the high school GPA just like AP and IB classes. Dual credit is awarded based on the student’s performance in their college courses. If students choose not to receive dual credit, they can opt out by contacting Mr. Angel (Northwood's DEPA) for guidance.
