During meetings today and this week, spend at least five minutes connecting before moving on to content. This may feel challenging; after all, there is so much to do and so little time! And yet, the value of making time for meaningful connection is important and contributes to psychologically safe workplaces. Consider some of the connection prompts:
What is a recent small moment of joy in your life?
Who do you feel grateful for today?
What are you looking forward to?
Anytime!
Consider the following reflection prompts to nurture meaning today:
When did I feel most supported by colleagues or community this week?
What small moment or moments allowed me to feel connected today?
What have I done to offer encouragement or presence to someone else?
Anytime!
Set a small challenge with yourself: Over 10 consecutive days, initiate 10 unique 2-minute conversations to build trust and rapport with your colleagues. This exercise can also be used in your work with students.
Benefits of this practice:
builds a foundation of belonging
opens the door to future collaboration
