About Us

The Gaithersburg High School NJROTC program is a federal program sponsored by the U.S. Navy. Its goal is to teach students the value of leadership, guided by the Navy’s core values: Honor, Courage, and Commitment.

This program offers leadership elective courses to students that go to Gaithersburg, Watkins Mill, Rockville, Richard Montgomery, and Quince Orchard High Schools.

Students learn Navy customs and courtesies, along with leadership, citizenship, maritime science, and naval history. Cadets can join competitive teams, earn SSL hours, go on field trips, and volunteer at community events. The unit provides uniforms, fitness gear, textbooks, and other materials. The program is led by Captain Robert Mitton, USN (ret), the Senior Naval Science Instructor, and Master Gunnery Sergeant Ronald Allender, USMC (ret), the Naval Science Instructor.
