Welcome to the Argyle Literacy Department! In Advanced English 6, 7, and 8, students hone their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills by engaging in rigorous, student-centered activities. Our department also houses the reading program Academic Literacy, where students' needs are addressed through small-group learning, high-interest reading material, and individualized, adaptive instructional software. Additionally, literacy includes the elective Theatre (examining how theatre builds and challenges community) and Lights, Camera, Literacy (where students work collaboratively and use technology to produce authentic products such as short films).
As a department, we utilize a variety of literature, informational texts, poetry, plays, and media to instill curiosity, empathy, and a strong sense of self in our diverse community of learners.
Please see the curriculum overview document below for a list of the texts read in English classes. Additionally, you will see the writing focus for each unit. You can reach out directly to your child's Advanced English teacher with any questions.
