This is Bob Sinclair, Principal of James Hubert Blake High School and I am reaching out to you today to share very important updates about the graduation ceremony for the class of 2021.
The current weather forecasts call for rain today, June 10th and tomorrow June 11th. In addition the National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Montgomery County during that time. Out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety of students, staff and families, James Hubert Blake High School, in collaboration with the Montgomery County Public School system has decided to change the date and time of our commencement ceremonies to Saturday, June 12 at 10 a.m. We understand this change impacts plans and arrangements that families have made.
You can find the updated family information sheet, including revised times on the Graduation page of this website. This sheet reflects the new reporting time for our students and has all of the key information for our commencement ceremony. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out.
Thank you for your understanding and support and we look forward to celebrating with our graduates and families on Saturday.
It was so great to see so many of our students today at rehearsal!!! Unfortunately we did miss a number of our Bengals, but that is okay, we will get you all caught up! I wanted to reach out tonight to provide some updates and information for you.
Please remember that there is a great deal of information available on our senior update website which is linked right on our regular website or can be accessed here à https://sites.google.com/mcpsmd.net/blake2021/home
As you know, the weather is questionable at this point for our ceremony. As of this afternoon we are still on as scheduled for our ceremony to by this Friday at 9:00 a.m. here at James Hubert Blake High School. We will continue to monitor the weather and collaborate with the school system to identify if we need to shift to one of our rain dates. (Friday night at 6 pm or Saturday morning at 9 am)
I also wanted to provide a couple of quick reminders and updates for the ceremony
Graduates should arrive between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. Graduates should be here before 8:00 a.m.
We are asking graduates and guests to travel together to save on parking. If our lots are full there will be satellite parking and transport provided from the Northwest Branch Recreational Park
Gates open at 8:00 a.m.
We will have transport from the student parking lot to the field for those guests who need assistance.
All guests, regardless of age will need a ticket
Wheelchair and handicap seating is available and accessible in the main bleachers. We are asking that the shorter front row, handicap accessible seats be left available in the stands for our guests who need them.
We will also have a tent on the field with very limited seating for any guests who require that cover from the sun. There will be limited seating in this area so we are asking only those who need these seats use them.
Depending on the weather and the temperature you may with to bring bottled water with you to the ceremony to stay hydrated. We anticipate the ceremony lasting 90 - 120 minutes.
We are looking forward to a great celebration of, for, and about our seniors on Friday. If we can support you in any way, or if you have any questions please refer to the senior update website or reach out to ask.
