General Requirements
First Step: Attend a Meeting & Connect with a "Seal Advisor"
A "Seal Advisor" is a teacher who understands the Seal requirements and provides guidance to students pursuing the Seal.
Interested students should attend one of the required meetings in the fall. At the meeting, if they are interested, students complete a Google Form in order to be connected with a Seal Advisor.
A Seal Advisor is then assigned to the student.
The Seal Advisor will meet with the student to discuss the requirements listed below, address any questions, and ensure the student understands the expectations.
Students pursuing the Seal must meet with their Seal Advisor once per month during scheduled ASR meetings to discuss progress toward the Seal.
Students who qualify for a Seal of Biliteracy must demonstrate:
Proficiency in a language other than English with qualifying scores on one of the following approved assessments:
STAMP 4S (cost paid by the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District)
ALTA Assessment (for languages not assessed in the STAMP 4S; cost paid by the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District)
ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) and ACTFL Writing Proficiency Test for the Seal of Biliteracy (cost paid by the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District for languages that are not available for assessment through the STAMP 4S or ALTA Assessment)
AP Language and Culture Exam (paid for by the student)
American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (cost paid by the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District)
Proficiency in English measured with a qualifying score on one of the following:
ACT English Language Arts assessment (for native English speakers or students who exited English learner services more than four years ago)
ACCESS for ELLs (for current English learners or students who exited English learner services fewer than four years ago)
Sociocultural competency through reading, reflection, and service that is approved, documented and evaluated. See the "Requirement Instructions" section of this web page for details.
All Seal requirements must be completed on or before April 15 of a student's senior year.
