Mrs. Coughlin is the lead teacher for 6th & 8th grade band. She also pushes in to help 5th and 7th grade band. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and her Master's in Music Education from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago. She is in her 17th year of teaching and is thrilled to be starting another school year and excited to connect with all of her band students and families!
In addition to teaching band, Mrs. Coughlin is a member of the Tundra Line, the official drumline of the Green Bay Packers. She has been performing at all home Packer games for what will hopefully be her 16th season. She has two cute kiddos: Danicka who is 9 and goes to Northside and LOVES playing the flute and piano. (In August 2022, she played a flute solo in a recital in New York City)! Derrick is a 6 year old aspiring drummer who's favorite songs to play are "We Will Rock You" and "Seven Nation Army". You will likely see Mrs. Coughlin's husband, Patrick around Kromrey too! He is a college athletic band director in Waukesha, WI and a percussionist. Outside of school, Mrs. Coughlin enjoys teaching young children in group piano classes, spending time with her nieces and nephew and keeping busy with friends and family.

1-2 Large Group learning opportunity/s where all 100+ members of the 6th Grade Band Team will learn together synchronously (at the same time) on Zoom. Mrs. Coughlin has some exciting opportunities planned for you even though we can’t be playing together...yet! This will happen around 9:00am once or twice per week.
Likely you will also have 1 Woodwind or Brass & Percussion Sectional, depending on your instrument group, for 20 minutes, around 9:00am, once a week. This will give you a chance to rehearse your part in the piece with those who play a similar part as you.
In addition, we plan to teach instrument specific content in a small group sectional with others who play your same instrument for 20 minutes, once per week. These will likely happen in the afternoons, after you’ve completed your online classes for the day.
Those who’ve elected 5 Day Band, please click on the 8th Grade 5 Day Band Tab to see the learning opportunities you will be offered. [link it here as well]
Mrs. Coughlin & Mrs. Reynolds co-teach 5 Day Band. We explore a variety of units including: Jazz Ensemble, Beginning Instrumental (where you learn a new instrument), Percussion Ensemble (hasn’t everyone wanted to be a drummer at some point in their life?), World Drumming, Bucket Drumming, Solo and Ensemble, Conducting and Composing. This year, regardless of whether we are physically in the school building or learning from home, we will offer 8th grade 5 day band members the opportunity to participate in many of these units, mostly through asynchronous learning (guided learning/exploring at your own pace, on your own time) but we will also offer some synchronous learning opportunities such as Jazz Ensemble and some of the Drumming Units as well.
