Vision of the Environmental Focus Committee

The Environmental Focus Committee (EFC) envisions a resilient world with healthy ecosystems where people and communities are empowered to creatively transform current practices in order to make a livable planet for future generations.

Mission of the Environmental Focus Committee

EFC invests in work that combats climate change by empowering people and communities to mitigate its effects and transition to a more just and sustainable way of life.

Program Focus of the Environmental Focus Committee

The EFC believes that climate change is one of the most pressing threats of our time. We also believe and trust that the people living closest to the effects of climate change are in the best position to take action on the most impactful environmental solutions.

We see our work as an investment in human ingenuity, coalition-building, and resilience in the face of unfolding climate catastrophe. EFC is interested in work that changes the political and social will towards healing communities and ecosystems with a level of commitment and a sense of urgency commensurate with the severity of the crisis.

We believe that the environmental movement must work in concert with racial, social, and economic justice movements to ensure that climate strategies are developed and influenced by the communities most directly affected. Therefore, our grantmaking strategy supports local community efforts to identify and develop environmental and climate solutions specific to their needs.
