Post-Secondary Education and Career Readiness
The fourth and fifth grade students at Caldwell Elementary School had the opportunity to identify career opportunities by participating in our annual Career Day event. Students were given a form to select the top 2 careers they would like to learn about during career day based on their interests. The counselor made sure that students were allowed to explore the careers that students selected, along with other careers in order for them to explore and expand their knowledge of different careers. The main goal for this event was to have a positive and lasting impact on students by helping them better understand their interests and career options as they continue their educational journey.
After students explored a variety of career apportunities, students had the chance to reflect on what careers they enjoyed learning about. The majority of students expressed that they enjoyed learning about jobs they never knew existed.
Working with Stakeholders
The counselor works closely with stakeholders to help implement an effective school counseling program aligned with the Texas Model. Our stakeholders include the Kiwanis club who volunteer at our school to help with our school store, reading to students in the classrooms, and mentoring students individually. Our church (First United Methodist Church) work closely with us by providing backbacks and resources to students in need. The counselor also works closely with our city mayor and board members who support events such as Career Day and our Kindness fundraiser. Without the collaboration with our stakeholders it would be impossible to implement a counseling program that effectively targets meeting the needs of all students academic, social and emotional needs.
