Counselor's Role
The school counselor plays a crucial role in fostering a safe and nurturing environment for all students. To achieve this, the counselor collects and carefully analyzes data, enabling the implementation of an effective counseling program that addresses the social, emotional, and academic needs of every student.
Leadership and Advocacy
The school conselor is a vital member of the leadership team, member of the PBIS Committee and acting as the 504 campus coordinator. Her role involves collaboration among teachers, parents, and stakeholders to successfully implement a comprehensive counseling program that is both efficient and effective.
An example of her leadership is the implementation of the school store, achieved through close partnerships with PBIS, Communities in Schools (CIS), teachers, administration, and the Kiwanis Club. In this initiative, she advocated for the needs of our students when presenting to community stakeholders, specifically the Kiwanis Club, and worked closely with teachers to ensure the implementation of a school store aimed at promoting positive behavior.
Furthermore, Ms. Mercado consistently demonstrates her commitment by conducting monthly guidance lessons in the classrooms, coordinating school-wide events, advocating for students during 504 meetings, and training teachers into integrating the Character Strong Program curriculum into daily morning meetings. These efforts collectively address the social and emotional needs of our students on a school-wide scale.
